Spinnerbaits - Why Use Small Baits

The main reason why you want to use small spinnerbaits is two-fold.  One, you want the bass to get as much of the bait as possible into its mouth, and Two, you want to imitate a small, easy to catch baitfish.

You almost always want to trim the skirt when using small spinnerbaits. The reason being, if your downsizing to a small bait to imitate the actual size of the natural baitfish/forage or if your downsizing because the bite is tough, the skirt that comes right out of the manufacturers box is usually to big to begin with.

You don’t want the bass to get a good look at a spinnerbait! They key to spinnerbait fishing is generating that reaction strike.  Downsizing a spinnerbait is "Almost" always a good idea, even if it means taking out a good portion of the strands.
