Spinnerbaits - Line Choice

The rule of thumb is you want to use as heavy of a line you can get away with without spooking the fish. Much of your line decision will depend on the water clarity. In general, a 17 - 20 lb mono is the best choice. Braid line is typically not a good choice because you run the risk up pulling the bait out of the bass’s mouth before the hook is actually set. This is due to the fact that braid line has very little or no stretch, where in spinnerbait fishing a little stretch is a good thing.

If you are fishing deep cover you may want to use a fluorocarbon. Why? Because fluorocarbon is heavier and denser than regular mono and will therefore sink faster allowing you to get deeper quicker and remain in the strike zone.
