PH Factor
- How does the PH factor in a lake or water body near you
affect fishing? Is this an important factor in
tournament fishing?
PH Factor
I have yet to see the PH factor be a predominant factor on
larger bodies of water during tournaments. It can
help the first day, where during your during your pre-fish
days you get some readings, however, wind, wave action,
and upwelling can change over a 3 day period or be in the
process of changing when you are taking your measurements.
For one day club tournaments in your area, this can be a
great asset! Especially on the tough days, this can
be one more tool in your bass belt to help
"build" a winning pattern.
The PH Factor may be one of the most overlooked
"factors" that affect bass fishing and where the
fish might be located on a body of water. I try to
think about my "Bass Biology" and one of the
most basic principles of finding bass, is finding the most
oxygenated water. Once you find this and use some of
the tips below, you may now have find your "Holy
Grail" of fish finding techniques.
Here are some
basic tips for determining the PH factor and using that
information to your advantage.
- Bass seek a PH factor of "7.2." It is
highly recommended you have a PH meter working with your
fish finder.
- Remember - A lower PH factor is more acceptable than a
higher PH.
- If the PH is to high, bass will simply not be there, the
water is to acidic.
- Water may look good, but can vary by ½ to 3+ points
within a 100-yard area. Bass can not tolerate these
extreme conditions and will vacate the area.
