About Lunker USA

Back to Home Page

The Lunker USA website was first launched in 2003 and has been a steady work-in-progress. The main purpose of this website is to talk about catching big Lunker Bass in both tournaments and on your own. I (JD) have much experience in bass fishing as I have been fishing all my life and have a genuine love for the sport.

Like many anglers, I share much the same story; My Dad showed me how to fish when I was about 5 years old with a green Zebco rod & reel (I still have the rod) off a small dock in the back of my uncle’s house. Fishing has always been one of the driving forces in my life and I’m like a kid in a candy store every time I talk about it.

I’ve owned 3 bass boats over the last 5 years, continually upgrading. Before that, I operated 2 boats with my Dad. Luckily, my Dad has the same love for bass fishing as I do.  Ever since I can remember, we have gone fishing every chance we can and have traveled to some of the best bass fishing lakes in the country.  A BIG thanks to my Dad for instilling in me the love for this sport!

My tournament career began about 5 years ago. Typically, at any one time, I belong to two local fishing clubs or tournament trails.  I participate in regional open trail tournaments and at least one of the national tournament series. Last year, in 2005, I qualified for the Wal-Mart BFL regional championship at Kerr Lake, NC as a co-angler. In my local clubs I compete as a boater and in 2005 placed in the top 3, as well as having won several tournaments throughout the year. In 2002, I was voted "Angler of the Year" by my peers in my local bass club (Bass Anglers Alliance – www.bassanglersalliance.net). Being technically savvy, I also design and maintain the Bass Angler Alliance website - www.bassanglersalliance.net.

This year, 2006 is shaping up to be a great year.  Currently I am registered for all four pro tours coming up to Lake Champlain (FLW Pro Tour, Bassmaster Elite Series, Bassmaster Open Series, and the FLW Stren Series).  I'm also participating in my local club tournament trail and will be competing in many of the "Open" tournaments in the region.

Studying bass fishing is something I truly believe in if you are going to be a competitive angler.  I’ve read over 20 different bass books which I keep in my mini bass fishing library.  Many of which are listed on this website in the “Books” Section.  I have attended many seminars, and subscribe/receive five industry magazines (Bassin, Bassmaster, Bass Times, In-Fisherman, and FLW Outdoors). I’m a firm believer that studying and learning as much as you can about the sport will help win the big tournaments, especially the ones where the conditions are tough. One of my fellow anglers calls me, "The Sponge" because I really do learn and absorb material and apply it to my tournament fishing tactics.  I believe the homework involved before tournaments is crucial to developing a winning strategy and pattern.

My goal with Lunker USA is to keep developing the site so it becomes a great resource to tournament anglers and catching those Lunker Bass that are going to help win the big tournaments.

In the late fall of 2005, I made the big decision to try and give the pro tour a shot.  I think both the FLW and BASS tournament series are fantastic. Remember, my loyalty lies with the sport!  My resume, business plan, and strategy to "try” and get by on the tournament trail is in the process of being finalized. My goal is to be on the BASS or FLW pro tour in 2007, I'm not certain which trail yet. I’m actively seeking sponsors and sponsorships. Hopefully, with my sales & marketing background and experience as a tournament bass fisherman,  I can make this dream become a reality.

Please feel free to view my Resume (Click Here).  The Resume is broken down into two sections, Professional Qualifications Summary & Bass Fishing Sponsorship Qualifications Summary.
